The Aga Khan Foundation in Syria seeks to employ an Education Officer- Tamkeen for its office in Damascus.
Tamkeen Project aims to empower vulnerable adolescents and youth across multiple governorates by equipping them with the tools, skills, and services needed to thrive in educational, social, and economic spheres. Through non-formal education programs, vocational training, and life skills development, the project
enhances their capacity to actively participate in community-building and working life. By fostering innovation, promoting volunteerism, and providing safe, inclusive learning spaces, the project enables participants to contribute constructively to their communities while advancing their personal, educational, and professional aspirations.
The Education Officer is responsible for contributing to the overall organizational objectives by defining the strategic direction for education activities, and closely engaging with the community. This role involves developing clear pathways for project implementation, and ensuring that education team members follow a cohesive plan to achieve the set project goals. He/she should work closely with project staff, partners, and stakeholders to align activities with the broader objectives of the project, ensuring its success through effective coordination and support with education authorities. The incumbent will report directly to the Project Coordinator.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate and cooperate with the Community Engagement team to prepare local implementing partners in the working areas.
- Coordinate with Community Engagement Officer on the following points:
➢ Put criteria for selecting the association that will participate in TAMKEEN
➢ Define the Community Management Group’s (CMG) selection criteria in cooperation with the association.
➢ Define teachers and lead teachers’ selection criteria in cooperation with CMG.
➢ Develop a work plan with CMG and follow up on implementing the plan.
➢ Identify safe spaces, determine their needs and develop a proposal with CMG to meet them.
➢ Form and support CMG in associations and help them to identify and meet adolescent needs via training, instruction, guidance and follow-up.
- Supervise and contribute to preparing training materials for the teachers and the CMG and developing them in accordance with the changing needs.
- Supervise and contribute to preparing self-learning curriculum.
- Report on the activities’ progress in meeting the goals, objectives and targets set in the annual plan
- Develop evaluation forms, needs assessments and questionnaires for the project monitoring and evaluation in cooperation with colleagues.
- Follow up the implementation plan and project results in coordination and cooperation with M&E Team.
- Develop a shared vision by identifying strategic goals and objectives related to the needs of the children and the wider community.
- Engage with individuals and community groups to identify local interests and education needs and ways to meet them.
- Help potential learners to overcome existing barriers to learning and work with teachers to create learning plans that encourage and influence the development of new learning opportunities planning.
- Daily follow-up with the teachers and facilitators in the learning spaces.
- Ensuring the quality of the training process by checking the curricula and following up the training plan for each trainer according to the specified timetable.
- Support the development of education budgets as required and planned, ensuring close coordination with the finance team.
- Collaborate with the operations team as needed and in line with project plans.
- Actively participate in meetings with both internal teams and external education actors, including education sector working groups, as required

- The applicant must have a university degree in Education or a related field.
- Three years of experience in Community Development and Education Development.
- Proven experience in designing and conducting Training of Trainers programs, focusing on building the capacity of educators and community leader.
- Knowledge of adult learning theories and methodologies, ensuring effective training for trainers and other professionals.
- Strong facilitation and moderation abilities to guide interactive and impactful learning sessions.
- Proven experience in delivering training, developing educational materials, and applying pedagogical approaches.
- Strong collaboration, communication, team work and community leadership abilities.
- Ability to develop and implement education strategies that align with broader organizational goals.
- Expertise in designing and adapting curricula for diverse learning environments, including non-formal and formal education settings.
- Good Command of English and Computer skills
